ABSTRACT

The study focused on the production and marketing of quality meat product that aims to counter and transcend the problem of price control and monopoly in Tabuk city. It determined the demographic and business profile of the respondents-both consumers and producers, identified the hog raising management practices and its comparative advantages using  the traditional and also an innovative/modern ways  and strategies,  determined the problems pressing the raisers in their economic activities-both production and marketing, identified the physical attributes of cut meat from pigs raised separately using two methods, determined the customers’ preferences in buying pork, and  determined the saleability and profitability of raising hogs. Descriptive research design with structured questionnaire and interviews/dialogues were used in gathering the data.Identified physical factors, management and marketing practices greatly determine and affect the quality of meat products and these are housing/pigpen construction with consideration of design, use of construction materials, dimensions and height of pigpens, design of walling, flooring, manger or trough; availability and entry of sunlight in the pigpen; provision of amenities and facilities particularly water system with drinkers and wallowing pond; proper feeds and feeding program.  Also, marketing and delivery services greatly affect the marketability of pork in Tabuk city.The quality cut meat from healthy pigs always ensure its saleability that  capture desirable market share at fair price making it competitive and enabling the raisers counter and transcend price monopoly in the industry.
