ABSTRACT

Social Networking sites become a trendy way of communication these days among all categories of people. Billions of people use it to meet old friends, make new friends, share, and view information and fulfill their social needs to interact with people (S. Dhull & M. Bhardwaj, 2014). With the advent of social media, the study determined the security awareness among social media users in Tabuk City, Kalinga. It utilized the descriptive correlative method of research in accomplishing the objectives of the study. The respondents who are social media users were selected using random sampling. The results were examined and analyzed by dividing them into a demographic profile based on gender, age, and educational background. Also, categorized based on basic awareness, technical awareness, advocacy, and responsiveness towards the proper usage of social networking sites. The study revealed that the majority of the respondents are unaware of the basic and advanced security features of social networking sites. It was also revealed that most of the users were not responsive to threats as well as in advocating security measures to protect their social media accounts which means that they are vulnerable to security intrusions. Therefore, the researchers strongly recommended that there shall be the conduct of seminars and information dissemination to Social Media users in the city.
